April 2016: Decorating with Pantone Color of the Year March 15 2016

It’s twins! For the first year ever Pantone named not one, but TWO colors of the year for 2016. The shades were chosen to convey a rosy warmth and tranquility for the new year, also playing a nod to societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity,” as the company said in a statement. The “baby” blue and pink colors may remind you of the walls of a nursery but Pantone says that the open exchange of information online “has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.” And that “Rose quartz is not baby pink,” says Leatrice Eiseman who, as executive director of Pantone’s Color Institute, oversees the company’s annual choice of Color of the Year, agrees that “It doesn’t have that wimpy feel.”

Now maybe you’re not decorating a nursery but what to use these colors in your design, here are a few tips and tricks form us to help you:
Make A Statement! - Buy a large area rug with a subtle pattern to give trendy update to a traditional color.

Or use Serenity and paint your ceiling to give your room a more elegant and framed look.
To buy: Marrakech Trellis Area Rug, $98, wayfair.com; Fulham Light Blue Area Rug, $96,wayfair.com.

Use pops of the color

City of the Day: Edinburgh, Scotland November 24 2015

Edinburgh, Scotland is a gem of a city known for its widespread arts and theater culture. It is a great place to visit during the holidays, particularly because of its holiday light snow that includes fireworks illuminating the sky from Edinburgh Castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Bagpipes playing "Amazing Grace" around the Sir Walter Scott Monument serve even better than carolers.

If you need somewhere to stay in Edinburgh, fireplaces are continuously rekindled at the aronial Balmoral. The Caledonian Hilton Edinburgh is Scotland's answer to the Plaza and equally as opulent.

In the 16th century, sorceresses were burned at the stake beside the gates of Edinburgh Castle. Today, however, nothing scorches at the Witchery by the Castle, which stands on the site. The restaurant serves Loch Duart salmon and Gartmom Farm duck -- all cooked to perfection.

This hotel is located just minutes away from Boston Common and Faneuil Hall.
